Andhra Pradesh, India – At 3:30am on Sunday January 20, devotees at ISKCON's Sri Sri Radha Syama Sundar Mandir in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, rose as usual for their early morning prayers. But things took a far from normal turn when temple resident Jagannath Das opened a bolted door and discovered fellow devotee Lakshmivan Das on the floor in a pool of blood.

Reincarnation, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is "rebirth in new bodies or forms of life; especially: a rebirth of a soul in a new human body." This ancient belief, a core belief of more than 800 million Hindus, has been in the news, most recently because of allegations in Andrew Morton's new book, "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography."

A sea change in the consumption of a resource that Americans take for granted may be in store — something cheap, plentiful, widely enjoyed and a part of daily life. And it isn’t oil.
It’s meat.
I went to the beach today after a long time, though it is only five minutes away from our temple.
There was one couple in sight. Unfortunately, it was not so pleasant, because there was a high tide shore line of washed up plastic bags and cups stretching the length of the beach (the longest beach in the world?) at least as far as I could see.
Perhaps this was the accumulation of years which I had not noticed, or a sudden influx to greet the new year. There is also no garbage collector, or even a trash bin anywhere along the beach. There never has been.

We live in a world of enticingly packaged, processed foods where nobody really cares what they’re eating, so long as it looks good. As a child, I remember seeing a guest on a TV chat show say that they were allergic to various products, and therefore had to check the ingredients on everything when they went shopping. “Oh my God!” the host exclaimed in horror. “That must be such a pain! I could never do that!”

NEW DELHI: Buying a new car? What about going to a dealer who, along with freebies, offers a free puja for the car with a priest in attendance? As priests hop from household to household performing pujas in the capital, they now have a new job opening, performing quick puja for the customers at showrooms before they drive away with the four-wheeler.

US Military Base, Iraq, January 20, 2008 – My name is Partha Sarathi Dasa, and I'm an ISKCON devotee and US army sergeant. I've been on active duty in Iraq since 2003.
Last night, as we prepared for a mission, one of my soldiers went crazy. He loaded his M4 assault rifle, pointed it at my head, and yelled, "If I have to leave this base one more time, I will kill you, and then kill myself!"

Los Angeles Times reporter K. Connie Kang had another interesting story on the Godbeat or, in this case, the gods beat. Yes, the Episcopalians are involved. It seems that the Diocese of Los Angeles hosted an interfaith service with Hindus at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral there on Saturday. Kang simply reported it without any analysis, which I think is good for an initial story on what turned out to be a rather controversial event.

Basava Premanand has been burgled… again. It is the third time in just one month. But he is in no doubt of the thieves’ motives. He suspects they were looking for evidence that he has collected for over 30 years against India’s leading spiritual guru, Sri Satya Sai Baba. Mr Premanand believes this evidence proves the self-proclaimed “God-man”, Sai Baba, is not just a fraud, but a dangerous sexual abuser.

Members of the Kirtana Festival Bus Tour through Mexico and Guatemala, and members of Bhagavat Life met at a retreat center in Guatemala for the first Japa Retreat held exclusively for youth. The twenty-two participants had two full, and two half-days of workshops designed to help them develop a stronger connection with japa.
During the last hours of the ride to Gangotri after sunset I dozed off as the bus bumped along in the dark at high speed, sliding across the seat as it turned left and then right, left then right.
On the trip back down the next afternoon, I realized the road we had traversed the night before: a single lane winding on the edge of a vertical cliff 200 feet above a raging river. I was on the edge of my seat for the first hour. I could never sleep under such conditions. Ignorance is bliss. Life in the material world, blissful, until we see we are headed over a cliff.
