New Bye-Law Could See End of Hare Krishna on London Campus
A new bye-law being discussed by Westminster Council could see the end of the Hare Krishna delivering free food on University of London campuses.
The Hare Krishna, who are regularly outside SOAS and the LSE handing out free food, would be committing a criminal act under the new bye-law which will, “prevent rough sleeping and the distribution of free refreshment”, according to the proposal letter.
A spokesperson from Food For All, the group behind the Hare Krishna’s service on campuses, said: “There are plenty of businesses around the LSE and SOAS that would like to see us close for business reasons.”
The Conservative Council, one of the richest in the United Kingdom, claim the measures are intended to protect local residents as well as businesses.
Many of University of London’s colleges are outside the boundaries of Westminster but it is thought that if passed by Westminster Council it would set a precedent that other councils would soon follow.
As well as outlawing soup kitchens, the proposals would prevent companies like Pret A Manger from distributing their unsold food to the homeless, which they have been doing for years.
The proposals have met with strong resistance from different sections of society, including volunteers, church representatives, homelessness charities and rough sleepers. Alastair Murray, deputy director of homelessness charity Housing Justice, said the new law would, “effectively criminalise compassion”.
He said: “I would be quite happy to be arrested for buying someone a cup of tea. There will be a long queue of people being arrested for buying a cup of tea. If that is what Westminster wants then bring it on.”

I am convinced that it is
I am convinced that it is time for devotees to look into the Freeman On The Land movement. Primarily it is the understanding that Law is created by God for the direction and wellbeing of His Created (the Jivas). According to the Bible which is the basis of Law, God created man in His image and gave him souvrienty over the Earth. It is Man who created Government and Government is there to serve Man. The Law ( Gods Law) is that one should not do harm to others or their property and consider them to be oneself. All other "law" (statutes, acts etc) are the fabrication of society, which in the case of ALL societies, means the Law Society of any particular place. If a Man is not a member of said society then where is the compunction to follow said societies rules? By law and commonsense, it is to be understood that for a society to exist it must have a name. I have no doubt that no one could say what the name of their "society" is. It is without a doubt, the Law Society. How many of us are members? This, of course, covers all aspects of modern life, from councils to police, they all work for the Law Society.
One should have full faith that Krsna and His Bhaktas are our only authority and that to follow the rules of "society" is done voluntarily. Which, of course means you can decline.
There are a plethora of tricks that are used to get us to contract and we should know what they are and how to avoid them.
I'm sorry if this seems a little off the path of Bhakti, but we need to protect our path from the Tyrants.
Your servant.
